Festival Creative of the Year

Brief
Create any piece of artwork that is linked to the science around you. This could be a graphic design, fine art or photograph.
Who can enter?
Individual entries from all key stages (Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form) are all welcome.
How to submit your entry?
Email your entry digitally in jpg format, no larger A3 to sciencefestival@potteries.ac.uk

Enter competition
Scientist of the year

Brief
Complete an investigation or experiment the title of which should be a question. Create a large poster displaying your method, what you found out, how you could develop the investigation next time and applications of the research.

School entries from Primary and Secondary key stages are welcome.

School Engineer

Brief
In teams of four, create a tower out of spaghetti and glue that will hold as many text books on top of the tower as possible (glue guns are permitted). Schools will submit a picture of their best design. Structures will be judged on the weight it can hold, height, efficient use of materials and design quality.

Brief
Create a film about the science around you, lasting no longer than 30 seconds. The film can be of anything you want and of any style that suits you, from animation to documentary!

Brief
Write a poem with a link to science and the world around you.

Enter competition
Writer of the Year

Brief
Write an article or short story of between 500 and 1000 words. It can be anything from a scientific development, an essay on a scientific issue or a fictional short story. It’s your choice!
Who can enter?
Individual entries from all key stages (Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form) are all welcome.
How to submit your entry?
Articles should be given to your nominated teacher. One entry per school.

Images can be included in the final article. Images, sources and quotations must be referenced if appropriate. Key stage category winners will be invited to the celebration event on Thursday 7th March 2024.

Create an app

Brief
Interested in coding and app creation? The Potteries Science Festival is launching an app design competition.
Who can enter?
Individual entries from all key stages (Primary, secondary and sixth form) are all welcome.
How to submit your entry?
There are two ways to enter: Create a working app on any platform OR submit an idea for an app, visualize what the app will do, how the app will look and work.
